After it was recently reported that Britney Spears entered a mental health facility, rumors surrounding her state of mind have been running rampant. Spears announced in January that she would be taking an “indefinite work hiatus” to deal with her father’s health, and it was confirmed that she began seeking professional treatment in early April. Amid suspicions that she was forced by her team to check into the facility and possibly being held against her will, the hashtag #FreeBritney began swirling around social media.
Now, the 37-year-old pop star is speaking out about her personal life, assuring fans that she’s okay. Spears took to Instagram on Tuesday to say that she is simply “doing what’s best at this moment.”
“Hi, guys. Just checking in with all of you who are concerned about me,” she begins the video. “My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately, so I just needed time to deal. But don’t worry, I’ll be back very soon.”

I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!! There’s rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said. I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me. Don’t believe everything you read and hear. These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago… I did not write them. He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address. My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment ??? You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want! Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way. If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you ❤️❤️❤️
The caption of the post goes into further detail, since, as Spears puts it, “things that are being said have just gotten out of control.” Apparently, it’s gotten so bad that her family and team members have been receiving death threats. “I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me. Don’t believe everything you read and hear,” she writes.
Spears finishes the post by assuring fans that she is a strong person and asking for privacy during her treatment. “Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way,” she says.

Of course, there will always be trolls on social media. But Spears’ fans have showed an outpouring of love and support on the post. “Love you so much. Focus on you and your family only. All your fans have your back!” one commented. “Stronger than yesterday,” said another, a quote from her iconic song “Stronger.”
We applaud Brit for taking a timeout for her mental health. In a world where we are forced to wear so many hats, it’s something we should also consider when feeling especially stressed or overwhelmed. “You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want!” she assured a fans.
