Since welcoming her daughter Luna, 3, and son Miles, 1, Chrissy Teigen has been subjected to mommy-shaming on many occasions. Though she consistently shuts down the haters like a pro, it’s not something that she (or any mother) should have to deal with. And now, Teigen’s husband John Legend is calling out the double standard of shaming moms.

In an interview with Romper, Legend points out that he never receives hate comments, despite the fact that he and Teigen are making joint parenting decisions. “We’re both parents,” he reminded the haters.

“People were shaming Chrissy for leaving the house, and didn’t say anything bad to me,” Legend told the publication, recalling a date night they had shortly after welcoming Luna. “Look, we’re both parents and we’re both going out. If you think that’s not appropriate — and first of all, you shouldn’t think that’s not appropriate — if you’re going to blame somebody, blame both of us, not just the mother.”

Amen.

Legend went on to explain that he and Teigen are a team in everything they do. “I feel like we tag-team or we split, especially when Miles was first born and when it came to breastfeeding and having that be a regular part of the ritual with him,” he said. “Chrissy had to tend to him more than I could, so I took it upon myself to really make sure Luna was good. So we kind of split off that way.”

Legend and Teigen tied the knot in September 2013 after dating for seven years. They started growing their gorgeous family with the birth of Luna in April 2016.

Legend added: “We just figure out who needs what and try to do what we can and never look at it as, ‘This is Chrissy’s job and this is my job.’ This is our job, together. We’re both parents and we make it work.”

It’s crazy that anyone has to explain their parenting decisions these days, but from the sounds of it, Legend and Teigen are doing just fine. They probably don’t need anyone’s unsolicited advice or criticism.
