There’s been a pivotal shift in how society looks at aesthetic treatments. Once hush-hush, cosmetic procedures continue to grow in popularity, with 17.5 million (!) cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2017, and according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Botox is the most popular minimally-invasive procedure performed.
The beauty benefits of Botox are well researched and widely known. It’s an injectable neurotoxin that temporarily paralyses muscles, thereby erasing existing lines and wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming. Still, there are plenty of misconceptions among consumers. Which is why in celebration of National Face Your Fears Day, Alchemy 43 will be offering first-time clients free Botox injections on October 15-16.
“We know that there is a lot of curiosity and interest, but we also know that there are a lot of things that hold people back from getting Botox,” says Nicci Levy, Alchemy 43 founder and CEO. “We set out on this campaign to convey that it’s not as scary as it sounds by really educating people and allowing them to experience it and learn for themselves.”
Levy explains that market research shows the biggest reason people are hesitant to try Botox is the fear of looking fake or plastic. But the best work goes unnoticed, she assures us. “What’s interesting is that Botox gets the bad rap, but it’s not actually the Botox – rather how it’s applied. A good provider will look at your entire face and evaluate all of your dynamic muscle movements, then strategically place the injections in a more holistic way.”
This individualized approach smooths and prevents wrinkles without radically transforming your face or making it appear “frozen.” Levy adds: “The idea is not to turn you into someone else – it’s all about enhancing what you have.”
But don’t be alarmed if you receive injections in more areas than that of concern. Think of it like an orchestra, Levy tells us. “All of our facial muscles work in harmony,” she says. “If you remove the only piano, you will get a different sound, and if you freeze only the forehead, you will get a different look.”
When done correctly, the benefits of Botox go beyond skin smoothing, Levy adds. “You look naturally refreshed, your face appears a little more lifted, and the eyes brighter,” she says. Of course, this has an impact on overall self-image. You already know about the ‘look good, feel better’ philosophy. New research supports this idea, showing that one’s perceived improved appearance influences their mindset and can even make a significant improvement in depressive symptoms.
By offering free Botox for the first time, Levy hopes to further remove the shame factor and align injections more with a self-care regimen. “In the same way you would get a blowout or your eyebrows done, it’s really empowering to do these things for yourself,” she says. “I want to empower people to talk openly and unabashedly about theses treatments because there is no shame in wanting to look and feel your best,”
On Tuesday, October 15 and Wednesday, October 16, Alchemy 43 is offering free Botox (up to 20 units) for first-time clients in New York City and Los Angeles. What to know going in: There is minimal pain and no downtime, and the effects from Botox last three to six months. From there, to maintain your results, the average cost is $250 to $500 per treatment area. Visit the Alchemy 43 website for more information.
